Technology stakeholders on Wednesday once again stressed on the need for the adoption of Artificial intelligence (AI) in boosting the Nigeria economy. This was at The Nigeria information technology Reporters Association (NITRA) growth conference held in Lagos.
The conference, the 4th in it’s series had the theme as :IMPACT OF AI ON NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: PROSPECTS, POLICIES AND CHALLENGES IN NIGERIA”,

In his opening remarks said that the fear and lack of understanding of Artificial intelligence (AI) has initiated the need to organise the event to educate members on the importance of AI and it’s motivation into the economy.
Representing NIRA, Mr. Peter Oluka stressed that the conference was a platform where the brightest minds and most passionate individuals in ICT converge to bring contributions on how AI can harness the power of ICT to drive sustainable growth in Nigeria.
He stressed further to say that the digital economy is not just an economy booster but it has become the back bone of innovation contributing more than 40% of our country’s GDP.

He highlighted the role NIRA plays in the growing economy, which includes recording, (,as at August 27th 2024), over 2 million dot ng registration, a feat that aligns with the vision to secure trusted online presence for Nigerians, a symbol of national identity .
The one day conference featured thought provoking panel discussions with regulators, policy makers and cyber security stakeholders, with an indept presentation about the prospect, of AI, policy and the challenges delivered by energy tech project leader. Mr Oluwatoni Olugbenga
In his address he stated that AI is changing our educational system and the prospects in terms of Agriculture business and energy but we do not have the right quality gadgets like computers . He went further to say that Nigeria is still far behind but we can start by educating ourselves on how to use AI positively by ensuring that the massive youth population have to be in tune with technology not just relying on the old to be acquainted with AI.
