… Encourage sex education in schools, human rights activist
With the girl child faced with myriads of global crises such as climate change, conflict, poverty and various forms of abuse especially rape, these occurrences further trample on their fundamental human rights to make their own choices which limits their will to succeed in future.
As the world recognises the international day of the girl child today, under the theme ‘GIRLS’ VISION FOR THE FUTURE’ , it stresses that the girl child is of great importance to the growth and development of any society or nation. This was corroborated by the proprietress of Richphaela Early Childhood school, Mrs. Domitilla Adaigbe.

According to her, there are no limitations to what the girl child can do as she encouraged that parents should keep close contact with their children to avoid any form of abuse.
Speaking at the event, the secretary of the Lagos state branch of the Civil liberties organization ( CLO ) Comrade Evelyn Akpa in her interactive section with the children disclosed that age has no barrier when it comes to abuse. She urged the female children present to always secure themselves by dressing responsibly and ensuring that no one touches them indiscriminately.
She stressed on the essence of sexual education, especially for the girl child in order to guard against any form of abuse.
The children were also encouraged by the human rights representative to speak out when faced with any form of abuse and also seek help from the necessary authorities like the police, human rights organizations as well as the hospital for medical care to prevent being infected in cases of rape.

She emphasized that since abuses are mostly perpetuated by family members and close acquaintances, children must be sensitised to note that not even their parents or relatives have the right to assault or abuse them.
