….CLERGY HARPS ON RENEWED CONSCIOUSNESS AND INTIMACY WITH GOD
As Christians all over the world celebrates Good Friday which is the second day of the Easter Truduum, Catholic faithfuls are reminded to note that the suffering of Jesus was a selfless sacrifice for humanity.
Good Friday marks the end of the forty days fasting which commenced on Ash Wednesday. Catholic youths of St Timothy Catholic church in Ojodu – Berger, Lagos, took to the streets to commemorate the suffering and crucifixion of Christ by dramatising Christ passion, while reciting the stations of the cross.
The station of the cross is a communal prayer where Catholics make spiritual pilgrimage to experience what transpired during Jesus last hour on earth.
Speaking during his sermon on the significance of Good Friday at St Timothy parish, the officiating priest Rev. Fr. Jude Madu, stated that the celebration of Good Friday is an historical event that should create a positive impression within us because most importantly, it has the power to transform and renew our spirit and hearts.
He highliighed that “with a realised consciousness”, we as individuals have to take the celebration of GoodFriday very seriously thereby honouring the call to have a greater, higher intimacy with God.
He pointed out that the call is to enable us to improve on our relationship with God stating that Christ came to live amongst us so that he’ll experience everything we are passing through as Christians today “The theme of the cross is obedience to God” he said, while asking what we’ll give God in return since he has shown us the way of mercy.
Likewise, he stressed that God expects total obedience from us because when we share in His suffering, we are expected to. share in His resurrection . The priest urged all to live righteously for God by ensuring that we are transformed as individuals. He ended by encouraging all to be good servants of the Lord in building better relationship with God for a better life.
The highpoint of the holy week observances culminates to Easter Sunday where Christian faithfuls celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, after his passion and death.
