A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced eight Chinese nationals for their involvement in cyberterrorism and internet fraud. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the development in a statement shared via its official X handle on Friday.
According to the EFCC, the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 secured the conviction on July 4, 2025, under the presiding of Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke. The convicted individuals include Pan Cai Qi, Zeng Xian Tao, Weng Mao Rong, Wang Xiong Wei (also known as Xiao Bai), Shi Dong Fu, Wang Shi Long, Liu Ke Fan, and Ting Liao.
The eight are part of a larger syndicate of 792 suspects linked to cryptocurrency investment scams and romance fraud. These individuals were apprehended during a coordinated sting operation called ‘Eagle Flush Operation’ on December 19, 2024, in Lagos, carried out by EFCC operatives.
While the EFCC has yet to release specific details about the sentencing or the precise roles of the convicted individuals within the syndicate, it assured that further information would be made available soon. The commission noted, “Details later,” signaling upcoming updates.
This conviction represents a critical achievement in the EFCC’s continuing campaign against international cybercrime groups operating within Nigeria, reinforcing its commitment to tackling sophisticated fraud networks.
