Akwa Ibom State Set To Mark World Tourism Day 2025 In Style

Akwa Ibom State is gearing up to celebrate World Tourism Day 2025 in style on Saturday, October 4th, 2025.
Although originally observed worldwide on September 27th, the Ministry of Culture & Tourism in partnership with Akwa Ibom State Hotels & Tourism Board is organizing an Eco-Friendly Road Walk that aligns with this year’s global theme, focusing on sustainable transformation.

The event highlights include a Road Walk and Cleanup Drive, which is a symbolic cleanup targeting key tourism areas in Akwa Ibom, emphasizing environmental cleanliness. Community Engagement is another focus, sensitizing locals on sustainable tourism practices and Akwa Ibom’s tourism potential. The event also involves promotion of Sustainable Tourism vision of the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Umo Eno Ph.D, positioning Akwa Ibom as a leading tourism destination in Nigeria nay West Africa…

The event enjoys the partnership support of Akwa Ibom State Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA),Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) the Ministry of Environment, the Chairmen of Uruan, Uyo, and Itu Local Government Areas, Ibom Air, Bulletine Construction, IADCL, Akwa Ibom Hotel Owners Association and various tourism stakeholders.

World Tourism Day: Cleanup Focus Areas and #ILoveAkwaIbom Contest

The focus areas for the walk and clean up include the Water Fountain to Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort Tourism trail, promoting this premium corridor popular with high-net-worth individuals and golf enthusiasts. The Itam Axis, a major gateway into Uyo, is spotlighted for development and sensitization. Additionally, the Atiku Underbridge, designed by UCCDA, is where the curtain will be drawn, spotlighting the state’s beautification strides.

To create room for citizens engagement, the release from the ministry and board has announced the #ILoveAkwaIbom Online Contest; encouraging public participation by posting of creative videos showcasing Akwa Ibom’s beauty using the hashtag: #ILoveAkwaIbom , there are fabulous prizes up for grabs by top entries including flight tickets Ibom Air, luxury accommodation and lots of consolation prizes.
