The United States Embassy in Abuja has warned Nigerians about the grave consequences of visa fraud, stressing that providing false information or submitting fake documents can lead to permanent bans under U.S. immigration law.
In a post shared on X on Monday, the embassy stated: “Visa fraud has serious consequences. Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans under US immigration law. This means you will never go.”
The warning came as U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, held discussions with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar. The meeting focused on areas of cooperation between both countries, with the embassy noting that “the United States looks forward to continuing to work together with Nigeria on issues of mutual concern.”
The engagement also takes place amid heightened diplomatic attention on Nigeria’s internal security challenges. In recent months, some U.S. lawmakers have raised concerns over attacks on communities, particularly in the North and Middle Belt regions, describing them as serious violations of religious freedom.
These lawmakers have urged stronger collaboration between the United States and the Nigerian government to address the security situation and protect vulnerable populations across the affected areas.
