The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) today issued a statement on the 2024  National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA) event slated to take place on Thursday,  the 21st of November 2024.
In his opening remark at a press conference held  in Lagos, the President of NCS., Dr. Mohammad Sirajo Aliyu asserted that the organisation has remained the foremost information technology (IT) professional association in Nigeria and also the voice of IT with over 20,000 members cutting across all sectors of our economy.
According to him, the National executive council ( NEC )  under his leadership is determined to be strategic, innovative and forward looking in the running of the affairs of the NCS.  He stressed that the selective process of awardees was done by public opinion polls, with the following awards up for grabs:
 – IT personality of the year
_Digital Governor of the year
-IT Gold Medal Award
-Youth Innovation Award
-IT Company Of The year
-Tech Mentor of the year
-Cyber Security Advocate of the year
-Recognition Award.
He affirmed that the NCS would confer prestigious professional fellowship on individuals that have distinguished themselves in IT development and he called on the press to support their intention.
The deputy president.  corroborated his statements adding that the annual event is their way of  celebrating and recognizing those who have made meaningful impact contributing to IT development in Nigeria. Appreciating the press, he assured participants that the bond between the NCS and the press would not be taken for granted.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of NITMA event,  Mrs. Shulammite llebiyi, shed more light on the new additions for 2024 which are the Tech Mentor of the year as well as Cyber Security Advocate of the year, and recognitions of Veterans in the society 
 
 The president had pointed out earlier that the NCS have taken Kin interest in observing those who have contributed to IT advancement within the ecosystem ecosystem making  it a point of duty for the president and members of the organisation to screen thoroughly before handpicking some awardees (deserving personalities),  for IT Gold Merit Award.
He also used the medium to advocate the need for government at all levels to embrace technology , Stressing that the NCS is aimed at intensifying their advocacy on how much can be done using IT in governance.
