The Governor of Imo State in Southeast Nigeria, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, joined the list of special award winners at the recently held National Information Technology Merit Awards, NITMA , organized by the Nigeria Computer Society, NCS. Uzodinma bagged the Digital Governor of the Year award. Othee winners include, Adewole Imran Salami, who emerged the Information Technology (IT) Personality of the Year; Mr. Jide Awe who came top as Tech Mentor of the Year; Mr. Olusegun H. Olugbile who came top as the Cybersecurity Advocate of the Year, while Sidmach was named the IT Company of the year at the event held at the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos.

NITMA is an annual event organised by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) to acknowledge and celebrate exemplary individuals and organisations in the Information Technology industry.

After receiving the award, Uzodimma appreciated the organisers and restated his unwavering commitment to leveraging technology’s power to drive development in the state.

Uzodimma was represented at the event by Mr Chimezie Amadi, the state Commissioner for Digital Economy and e-governance.

The event also conferred professional fellowships on 37 members of the NCS and honorary fellowships to distinguished Nigerians.

NITMA further honoured some eminent elders and pioneers with awards, to personalities including Atu-Ekong Donatus Obot Etiebet, Mr. Tunde Ezichi, Arc Bishop (Prof.) Dada Akinde, Alhaji Ladi Ogunneye, Dr Chris Nwannenna, Dr. Isaac Adeola Odeyemi, and Prof. Joshua O.A. Ayeni and more.

In his welcome address, the President of NCS, Dr Sirajo Aliyu, described the award night as a moment to shine spotlights on brilliance, creativity, innovation and hard work that defines the spirit of the association.

Aliyu said the gathering reflects the milestone achieved as an association and honours exceptional individuals who have distinguished themselves through their remarkable contributions to the association’s shared goals and the broader society.

Also speaking at the event was the chairperson, of publicity, events and trade services at NCS, Mrs Shulammite Ilebiyi said that the recipients of the 2024 awards are selfless pioneers, honourable elders, elite leaders, outstanding members, and young innovators – individuals who dared to dream, who worked relentlessly, and who turned vision into reality.

Other recipients of the night were the IT Gold Merit awarded to the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, Outstanding Member of the Year, Sen. Shuaib Salisu, and the Non-governmental Organisation with Immerse contribution, Jim Ovia Foundation, while the Elite Leaders IT Growth and  Development recognition award was won by Dr Leo Stan Ekeh.

The event was beautifully anchored by the multiple award broadcast journalist and compere , Louisa Olaniyi and Mr Yusuf Salisu Funtua of the NCS.
