As the year winds down, Google has released its annual Year in Search report for 2024, offering a unique glimpse into the questions, events, and cultural moments that captured global curiosity.
This year, searches reflected a world engaged in major global events, pop culture phenomena, and groundbreaking moments in sports and entertainment. Notable losses and meanings to top trending slang, recipes and more.
At the top of the list With respect to news were the U.S. presidential election, the new national anthem, National grid, minimum wage, and Ibadan explosion.
For Nigerian personalities, Bobrisky tops the search this year followed by Betta Edu, shallipopi, khaid and Bukunmi Oluwashina.
Donald Trump led the list of global personalities with Kai Cenat, Kamala Harris, Tyler, and Diddy following suit.
In sports, Nico Williams, Nwaballi, Leny Yoro, Cole Palmer, Reuben Amorim were the personalities that topped the year in search.
The year under review saw losses in Nollywood and other sectors as what led to the death of Junior pope led the search for losses this year followed by Mr Ibu, Herbert Nwigwe, Sisi Quadri, and Ifeanyi Ubah.
Slangs and catchphrases were not left out in 2024 searches as Nigerians sort for the meaning of Demure, Steeze, Pet Peeves, Moots, and Naira mutilation in that order.
Ogechi tops the lyrics list this year followed by Ozeba, Omemma by chandlier more, Marhaba, and xxxtentacion Hope.
Food lovers got rolling with Pornstar Martini Recipe, Milky doughnut recipe, Frejon Recipe, Chinchin and finally Waffle recipes.
I Don’t Care by Boy Spyce came first in song search while a ribe called Judah took center stage in movies.
The iPhone 16 was the most searched device in 2024 while the naira to dollar rate was the most asked question by Nigerians in 2024.
