
A gas explosion occurred on March 11, 2025, at approximately 8:10 PM, leading to a massive fire outbreak. The distress call received reported that an articulated vehicle carrying gas exploded, causing a devastating fire. The incident is believed to have happened when the vehicle attempted to ascend the Link Road to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near the Otedola Bridge. In the process, the vehicle lost control, summersaulted, and spilled its entire gas load onto the road, igniting a fire immediately.
The make and registration number of the vehicle involved in the explosion remain unknown at this time. However, the fire resulted in extensive damage, with four buildings, 15 vehicles—including tricycles—severely burnt. Several shops and household properties were also destroyed in the inferno.
As of now, the number of casualties is still being determined. Two bodies have been recovered from the scene, and the number of human lives lost is yet to be fully confirmed. A private hospital located in the area was also impacted by the explosion. Authorities are continuing rescue operations, and further details on the victims are expected as the situation develops.
