President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has officially declared the first week of April as Police Week and April 7 as National Police Day, an annual event dedicated to honoring the Nigeria Police Force. This initiative recognizes the invaluable contributions of police officers in maintaining law and order and ensuring internal security across Nigeria.
In line with this declaration, the Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, FMNIMC & CMC, FCAI, Anipr, Arpa, is pleased to announce the celebration of the inaugural National Police Week from April 3 to 7, 2025. This year’s theme, “Inclusive Policing: A Panacea to Improved Security and Economic Growth in Lagos State,” underscores the critical role of collaborative efforts among security agencies and other stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property in the state.
National Police Week serves as a significant opportunity for the Nigeria Police Force to reinforce its relationship with the communities it serves. The week-long celebration not only acknowledges the dedication and sacrifices of police officers but also fosters constructive engagement with the public, allowing citizens to gain deeper insight into the transformative work of the police force.
Following the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the Lagos State Police Command has outlined a series of impactful events aimed at strengthening community policing and enhancing public safety. These activities, designed in line with international best practices, will engage residents and visitors alike in fostering a more secure Lagos State.
Police Week 2025: Engaging the Community through Health, Clean-Up, Dialogue, and Unity
The planned activities include a Health and Wellness (Medical Outreach) initiative on Thursday, April 3, 2025, starting at 8:00 a.m. at Computer Village, Ikeja. This outreach will provide free medical check-ups, wellness workshops, and mental health awareness programs to residents.
On the same day, at 9:00 a.m., the Lagos State Police Command will embark on a Clean-Up Exercise across the 14 Area Commands in the state. Officers will visit major parks, bus stops, and markets to carry out sanitation exercises, emphasizing the importance of a clean and safe environment.
A Community Outreach Program (Stakeholders Engagement) is scheduled for Friday, April 4, at 9:00 a.m. at the Police Officers Mess, Ikeja. This town hall meeting and interactive session will offer the public a platform to discuss security concerns, share feedback, and explore ways to strengthen police-community relations.
As part of the celebrations, a Walkathon will take place on April 5, commencing at 6:00 a.m. from the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja. The route will pass through major and strategic locations across the city. This initiative aims to promote camaraderie, celebrate diversity, and boost confidence and trust between the police and the people they serve.
The Lagos State Police Command invites all residents and security stakeholders to actively participate in the scheduled events. The Command appeals for continuous collaboration and support from the public as it works towards ensuring a safer and more secure Lagos for all.
