Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six suspected members of a notorious criminal gang during a routine patrol operation on May 29, 2025. The successful intervention led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and a vehicle believed to have been stolen. This operation underscores the Command’s ongoing commitment to flushing out criminal elements and enhancing public safety across the state.
According to a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects — Yakubu Oke (48), Teslim Balogun (33), Emmanuel Osas (33), Joseph Abah (34), Idris Adewunmi (32), and Opeyemi Kolawole (28) — were intercepted during the patrol. Upon questioning, they failed to provide credible explanations for their movements and identities, prompting the officers to conduct a more thorough investigation.
A detailed search of the suspects and their vehicle led to the discovery of two locally fabricated pistols, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 17 live cartridges, and an unregistered 1999 Toyota Camry. Preliminary investigations have since revealed that the group is affiliated with a notorious gang that has been under police surveillance for its involvement in a series of criminal operations within the Lagos Metropolis.
Police Intensify Efforts as Gang Suspects Cooperate with Investigators
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the suspects are now cooperating with investigators and have begun providing actionable intelligence that could lead to the arrest of additional gang members and collaborators. The Command has assured that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be formally charged in court once inquiries are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to crime prevention and enforcement. He called on Lagos residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behavior to the nearest police station. CP Jimoh also emphasized that the police force remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives and property while sustaining peace and order throughout the state.
