LAGOS EXPLOSION: SCAVENGER KILLED AFTER HANDLING GRENADE. THREE INJURED

A devastating bomb explosion has occurred at Taiwo Street, Idi-Araba, in the Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State today, April 5th, 2025

According to report, the explosion was triggered by a Northern scavenger who attempted to dismantle military – grade grenades for scrap metal .

The incident occurred at about 1:30 PM when the Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) unit in Lagos police command, Ikeja received a distress call. The detonation killed the scavenger instantly leaving three others injured, who were rushed to a nearby hospital.

It was further disclosed that the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident. Upon arrival the team ensured the area’s safety and found evidence of tampered military-grade grenades.

Hundeyin further confirmed that the scene was secured, photographed, and crucial evidence was collected for analysis.

“The deceased’s body has been moved to a public morgue for autopsy and an investigation has been initiated. Further details will be communicated,” he added.

However, the incident highlights the need for citizens to be aware of dangers of handling unexploded ordnance and the importance of proper disposal procedures.
