
Detectives from the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a man identified as Abubakar Iliyasu in connection with the murder of 65-year-old Mrs. Jane Okoye. The tragic incident occurred on April 2, 2025, in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State. This was revealed in a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, today 4th of May 2025.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Iliyasu allegedly broke into the victim’s residence, attacked her, and escaped with her Toyota Sienna vehicle. Mrs. Okoye was found unconscious at the scene and rushed to a nearby medical facility, where she was later confirmed dead.
The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further investigation. A team of homicide detectives was immediately assigned to the case and utilized both intelligence and advanced technical tools in their efforts to track down the suspect and recover the stolen property.
Their efforts led to a breakthrough when the suspect was located and arrested in Ankpa, Kogi State. The stolen Toyota Sienna was also recovered in good condition and has been secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to the police, Abubakar Iliyasu is currently in custody at SCID, Yaba, where he is cooperating with investigators and providing valuable information to aid the case.
Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured the public that the suspect will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and delivering justice for victims of crime in the state.
