The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including a guardian, for their alleged involvement in the abduction and sale of a two-week-old baby. The suspects were apprehended by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following a detailed investigation into a case of child theft and conspiracy.
According to a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, 15th of May, 2025, the case was initially reported on May 5, 2025, at the Ajah Police Division by a concerned individual.
According to the report, a 16-year-old girl identified as Miss Happiness had been impregnated by an unknown person. Due to financial hardship, the complainant’s mother had entrusted the young girl to one Nonye Osi for accommodation and care until she delivered the baby.
However, investigations revealed that Nonye Osi conspired with others to relocate the teenager to an undisclosed location. When she was eventually found, Miss Happiness was no longer pregnant and had no knowledge of the whereabouts of her baby.
Baby Recovered as Police Arrest Five in Lagos Child Trafficking Case
Upon transfer of the case to the SCID for a more thorough investigation, detectives arrested five suspects: Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo. The group had allegedly sold the newborn baby for the sum of Three Million Naira (N3,000,000.00).
Through dedicated and coordinated efforts, the police were able to trace the missing child to the Agemuwo area of Badagry. The two-week-old baby boy was recovered safely and is reportedly in good health. He is currently under the care of the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit pending his reunion with his biological mother.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are still ongoing to apprehend any other individuals connected to the crime. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of all residents, especially the most vulnerable, and pledged to ensure justice is served.
