At least 20 residents of Kaura-Namoda, the headquarters of Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area in Zamfara State, have been abducted by armed bandits in a deadly overnight raid. The attackers also killed four women who reportedly resisted being taken.
According to reports, the assailants launched their attack around 2 a.m. on Saturday, firing gunshots indiscriminately as they moved from house to house, dragging residents from their homes.
The incident comes just days after Aminu Sani, the federal lawmaker representing Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji Constituency, raised alarm over the growing insecurity in his constituency, warning that bandits had effectively taken control of the area.

An eyewitness and survivor of the attack, Abdullahi Mohammed, described the situation as terrifying. He confirmed that the bandits, who were fully armed and arrived on motorcycles, abducted at least 24 individuals—mostly women and children who were unable to escape.
“The bandits stormed our town while we were asleep and began shooting heavily to create panic. Many of us woke up in confusion. Some tried to resist, but most of us, including myself, fled into the bush to escape being killed or abducted,” Mohammed recounted.
He further revealed that four women were killed on the spot for refusing to follow the attackers into the forest.
“They went from house to house, forcefully taking people, especially the vulnerable. The four women who resisted were shot dead. It’s horrifying. The bandits now roam freely here, and there’s very little response from the security forces,” he added.
Mohammed also noted that just days before the attack, hundreds of residents held a peaceful protest in Kaura-Namoda, decrying the persistent attacks and the authorities’ failure to protect the community.
Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed the scale of the assault, saying, “They came in large numbers and took many people. I can’t say exactly how many, but they also killed some. I had to leave the town this morning because I fear they’ll return.”
Efforts to get an official statement from the Zamfara State Police Command proved unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to repeated phone calls or messages seeking confirmation and comment on the attack.
