The Lagos State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of two residents who were abducted from a settlement near the Ijede Creek in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The victims, both residing within the creek side settlement, were abducted two days ago by unidentified hoodlums who fled through the creek and adjoining forest after the attack.
According to a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, today 26th May 2025, a distress call was received at the Ijede Police Division around 10:00 p.m. on the day of the abduction, reporting gunshots in the vicinity of the Ijede Creek side settlement. Responding swiftly, a large joint team comprising over fifteen police tactical squads, detectives, conventional officers, local vigilantes, hunters, and community members was mobilized to the scene.
Upon confirmation that two residents had been kidnapped from their homes deep within the creek, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, directed the immediate launch of a robust and coordinated rescue operation. Security personnel were strategically deployed to block all entry and exit routes through the surrounding forest and waterways, with the objective of rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators.
The intensive operation culminated in the successful release of the victims, unhurt, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Both individuals have since been reunited with their families. Meanwhile, security operatives remain active in the area, continuing a thorough search of the creeks and adjoining forest to locate and arrest the suspects responsible for the kidnapping.
The Lagos State Police Command commended the bravery and dedication of its officers and acknowledged the invaluable support of local vigilantes, hunters, and residents. Despite the significant logistical challenges and the inherent dangers of operating within the difficult terrain of the Ijede creek and forest, their efforts were instrumental in ensuring a safe outcome.
