The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a digital Pre-Enrolment Portal designed to simplify and accelerate the process of registering for the National Identification Number (NIN).
The new platform allows applicants to securely submit their personal information, upload required documents, and book appointments ahead of biometric capture at designated enrolment centres. The initiative is aimed at improving efficiency and easing the registration experience for Nigerians nationwide.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, NIMC said the portal was introduced to reduce long waiting times, minimise congestion at enrolment centres, and enhance the accuracy of data submitted by applicants.
According to the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the platform enables prospective applicants—both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora—to complete their biodata submission online before visiting an enrolment centre for biometric capture.
NIMC noted that by allowing applicants to complete a significant portion of the process digitally, the system is expected to drastically reduce overcrowding and long queues at registration centres across the country.

Speaking on the initiative, NIMC’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that the portal simplifies NIN registration by limiting physical visits to biometric capture alone, thereby improving convenience and operational efficiency.
She highlighted key features of the platform, including online capture and management of biodata, appointment scheduling to minimise delays, direct data entry by applicants to reduce errors, and secure handling of personal information. The system also supports seamless document uploads and improved workflow for NIMC staff.
Officials added that the launch of the digital portal aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises digital transformation, efficient public service delivery, and inclusive national development.
NIMC urged all prospective NIN applicants to leverage the Pre-Enrolment Portal, describing it as a faster, more convenient, and citizen-friendly route to obtaining a National Identification Number.
The commission further stated that the platform reflects its commitment to building a reliable, inclusive, and technologically advanced national identity ecosystem capable of supporting effective planning, service delivery, and socio-economic development.
With the introduction of the portal, Nigeria joins a growing number of countries adopting digital solutions to improve access to essential identity services and reduce administrative bottlenecks within the public sector.
