OpenAI has announced plans to begin testing advertisements on the free and Go tiers of ChatGPT in the coming weeks.
The company disclosed this development on Friday via its official X handle, emphasizing that the move is guided by principles of user trust and transparency as it seeks to make artificial intelligence more accessible.
OpenAI assured users that responses generated on ChatGPT would not be influenced by advertising. The company stressed that ads would remain separate from conversations and be clearly labelled. “Responses in ChatGPT will not be influenced by ads. Ads are always separate and clearly labelled. Your conversations are private from advertisers,” the announcement read.
According to OpenAI, paid tiers, including Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscriptions, will remain completely ad-free.
The company explained that it decided to share its approach early to reassure users and clarify how advertising would be handled on the platform as testing begins.
