The National Intelligence Service of the Republic of Korea (NIS) has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for its exceptional effort in apprehending a 59-year-old wanted drug baron, Ogbonnaya Kevin Jeff.
According to a statement signed by the Director Media and Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi, Jeff was apprehended in February 2025 after 17 years of evading authorities and shipping illicit drugs worth billions of naira across the world.
It was reported that Jeff had painstakingly been difficult to track down by the NDLEA operatives in Lagos which prompted an issuance of an Interpol red notice against him due to his persistent shipment of illicit drugs to South Korea. He was eventually arrested on Wednesday, 12th February 2025 at his hideout at No. 3, Ibukunoluwa Taiwo close, off LASU. Road in Lagos. The NIS sought the help of NDLEA in tracking and arresting Jeff, showcasing a successful international collaboration.
It was disclosed that in excitement over the breakthrough, delegates from the Korean Intelligence Service paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig Gen Muhammed Buba Marwa (Rtd).
The NIS delegation, led by Director Taeyong Cho, visited the NDLEA headquarters and delivered a letter of appreciation, seeking Jeff’s extradition to South Korea to face pending drug charges.
Meanwhile, Previously the drug baron had served a one-year prison sentence in Korea in 2007 for drug offenses and was deported to Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, the NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa assured the Koreans that Nigeria would continue to partner with them in the global effort against illicit drug trafficking and

In addition ,Marwa expressed gratitude for the Korean government’s donation of equipment to the NDLEA, stating that it would be of “tremendous help” in their fight against drug traffickers. He also hoped for training opportunities for NDLEA officers in Korean Intelligence training institutions that will further solidify the partnership between the two countries.
