The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted large consignments of opioids and other illicit substances concealed in building materials in Taraba State, while arresting a 75-year-old suspected drug dealer in Ebonyi as part of a nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking.
According to a statement by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja. Operatives acting on intelligence intercepted a truck conveying building materials from Onitsha to Jalingo on June 6th.
A search of the vehicle at Nukkai Timber Shade in Jalingo led to the discovery of 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 tablets of rohypnol, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup hidden beneath the cargo.
The driver’s assistant, 22-year-old Buhari Abdullahi, was arrested in connection with the seizure.
NDLEA Arrests Suspects in Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Kano, Gombe Raids
In Ebonyi State, NDLEA operatives arrested 75-year-old Okebe Samuel in Okposi. The suspect was allegedly found with 300 grams of skunk packaged for retail sale.
The agency also raided a known drug enclave in Umulolo, Orlu, Imo State, where a suspected female drug dealer, Chioma Okeke, was arrested with eight kilograms of skunk.
In Edo State, a series of operations across Benin City resulted in the arrest of four suspects, including three women. The suspects were found with various quantities of skunk, Loud, methamphetamine, Colorado and other psychotropic substances.
Similarly, operatives in Kano State arrested 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan in Madobi with 40 blocks of skunk weighing 38 kilograms.
In Gombe State, officers intercepted Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi, 28, near Dantiti Plaza in the Tumfure area, recovering 15,000 capsules of tramadol from him.
WADA Sensitisation Continues Across Oyo, Lagos, Others
The agency said its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign also continued in schools across Oyo, Lagos, Anambra and Kano states.
Commending the successful operations, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, praised officers in the affected states for their vigilance and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country.
