Members of the Catholic Confraternity of Christian Fathers, CCCF of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, have called for a renewed effort by all and sundry to curb the alarming spate of moral decadence in society.
They made this call at their 2023 triennial convention with the theme “The increase of moral decadence in contemporary families- The role of Christian Fathers.”
The group equally urged the government of Nigeria to promote only value-added policies that will enhance the quality of lives of its citizens.
In a resolution reached last Saturday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Ikeja, the Confraternity frowned at the attempts by foreign influences to redefine African values particularly the concept of marriage in the name of unbridled freedom and human rights, adding that these have had negative consequences on the lives of our youths.
In his address, the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins who was ably represented by the Vicar of Ikeja Region, Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Taiye Fadairo, noted that we live in a time when the moral fabric of society is unraveling, and urged members of the Confraternity to strive to be beacons of light.
“I urge you to earnestly seek ways to fortify the moral foundations of your families by striving to be beacons of light in a world that often finds itself last in the darkness of moral relativism,” the Archbishop said.
The Guest Speaker at the Convention, Rev. Fr. Fr Raymond Emedo, Associate Administrator at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, encouraged parents to spend quality time with their children and share with them the word of God to mold their moral lives.
He also challenged the men to live exemplary lives and protect their families against negative ideologies that are ruling the world.
Hear him: “As fathers, you are expected to take the lead in the spiritual formation of their children and be prayerful. You must direct your children in the right part and be good models since children earn more by what they see and hear.”
Earlier in his address, the President of the CCCF Sir Lawrence Ojemen, while decrying the alarming moral decadence in the society, challenged all fathers to set a moral compass for their children to emulate.
Over twenty deserving members were honoured for their outstanding contributions to the growth of the confraternity at the convention. Amongst them is the Communications Manager of the Directorate of Social Communications, Mr. Tony Agbugbu who was awarded The Ambassador of the CCCF, and the immediate past ADC President, Sir Dele Ogunmekan who was awarded the Grand Patron of the CCCF.
