An e-Church Project powered by Neo-Skill Consulting, Neo-Skill Consulting, iT360 Magazine, Mterra Communications, Communication Week, Political Economist, RaveTV, Smile Telecoms and a host of others will debut in Ibadan on April 14, 2017 at Agodi Park, Ibadan.
Convener of project, Mr Seyi Olaleye, explained at a press briefing that the online platform is aimed at helping churches and church ministers to gain online presence and leverage on technology tools to take their gospel to the next level. He added that there is the plan for Wifi Worship OnWheel as well as taking the initiatives to other states of the federation.
He said, “The purpose of the Wi-Fi Worship and the reason for its proposed extension to other states of the federation is to encourage Christians to be more active in sharing their faith in the online space. This can’t be achieved without the involvement of telecoms. We are collaborating with the first telecoms in the City of Ibadan, Smile Telecommunication, in this initiative.
“The Oyo State’s Wi-Fi Worship is focused on celebrating the crucifixion, death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ and populating the cyberspace with the message of The Cross. It is a platform where the resurrection of Jesus Christ will be celebrated with the aim of reducing explicit content online and ultimately reminding believers of Jesus’ coming.
“The internet has become a global village; the Bible said in Mark 16 chapter 15 that we should go into the world and preach the gospel. Today, part of the world is represented by the Internet, where half of the world communicates online. But it is fast becoming the harbinger of evil and a corrupting influence on the vast majority of people. But the church has a responsibility to turn things around and spread the world of God in the Internet world.”
Olaleye added that the Wifi Worship has the capacity to change the explicit content on the Internet for good.
“We want to use Wi-Fi technology to spread the gospel. But this time, it is the message of the cross, which will share more than 300 images and videos on social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so on.”
Co-founder of Practivate, Toni Olumide said “The message of the gospel is the same but the methods must evolve. If we ignore the use of technology and the internet as a tools to reach out, we would lose our voice as the Church”
Convener of Rampage Outreach, Pastor Eyitope Lala, added that Oyo state’s Wifi Worship is centred on The Cross, which symbolizes Easter celebration. He said the event will feature a campaign aimed at inspiring Christians across the world to create a simple Gospel-themed video, showcasing their personal experience about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, share with their family and friends and thereby reaching out to millions of people with the message of resurrection.
He added that to be part of the Wifi Worship Ibadan City, interested people should write a short story about Christ’s resurrection in 140 characters (on twitter), 100 words (on Facebook) and stand a chance to win a smart phone and internet modem tagged #ResurrectionOfJesus
Managing Director of one of the emerging mobile telephone manufacturers in Nigeria, Mr Tayo Ogundipe, said that since smart phone is all about experience, his company is in the market to give same experience through the newly released mobile phones.
He said, “We hope this experience will help you better shine your light as Christians and share the message of the CROSS at Wifi Worship Ibadan City. Also, we shall be giving a complimentary “Solo Smartphone” and souvenirs to whoever wins in the campaign”.
The convener urges the Christians in Ibadan to join the project bandwagon by sharing the message of the cross, shine the light and preach the gospel with smart phone.
He added that, the event will feature other attractions like dancing, comedy, gift sharing, and a host of other inspiring activities while refreshment will be served and catered for by Aduke. According to him admission to the project is free. To register, interested people are to log on to http://goo.gl/FrCifB and complete necessary information requests.
