The Lagos State Police Command has addressed concerns over a viral video showing a large group of young men gathered in front of the Dano Company premises in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State. The video had sparked widespread speculation and alarm on social media.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on May 15, 2025, the police deployed officers to the scene after receiving information on May 14, 2025. Preliminary investigations revealed that the 89 young men in number, had arrived from Katsina State to work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki.
It was disclosed that the contractor responsible for recruiting the labourers confirmed to the police that he had sourced and brought the men for legitimate employment purposes. The Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the refinery corroborated this statement, affirming that the labourers had been verified and certified for entry into the facility.

However, the police conducted thorough searches of the individuals and found no incriminating items in their possession. Each of them was properly identified and presented their National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were duly verified.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified or alarmist content that could create unnecessary tension or panic. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across Lagos State and responding promptly to all matters relating to public safety.
Nevertheless, the police has effectively debunked claims of any suspicious or malicious activity surrounding the gathering, confirming that the young men were indeed recruited for legitimate work at the Dangote Refinery.
