Consequently, Police Patrol Teams,Tactical Squads, and other Police detachments and Operatives responded swiftly to the distress and were able to promptly restore normalcy. One individual who sustained injuries during the chaos was rescued and immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is recovering well.
According to a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, 18th of May, 2025, the Lagos State Command confirms that no life was lost in the incident. However, three (3) of the suspects involved in the disturbance of public peace leading to the unrest were arrested at the scene, detained in police custody, and will be arraigned in Court on completion of the investigation.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, has since, on directives of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, taken over the case for a thorough investigation to determine the root cause of the incident and to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Public Safety, Dismiss Ethnic Clash Claims in Evans Square Incident
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, wishes to reiterate the Command’s firm commitment to maintaining law and order across the State . The Command can also confirm that there was no form of violence related to ethnic clashes or confrontation anywhere in the State.
The incident is also not in any way a threat to the peace and security of Lagos State. The fracas leading to the disturbances of the peace in the mentioned location was caused by miscreants and hoodlums who took advantage of the situation and not on any ethnic divide or ground.
The Lagos State Police Command remains steadfast in its constitutional obligations to protect lives and property and ensure the continued safety of all Lagosians and visitors to the State .
Parents and guardians are therefore implored to warn and prevail on their children and wards to be law-abiding and desist from getting involved in disturbances of public peace. Members of the public are therefore urged to go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimidation.
