The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, Jude Onouha, identified as the kingpin of a notorious syndicate that specialized in vandalizing exotic vehicles across residential estates in Lagos.
According to the Command, Onouha and his gang disguised themselves as security operatives by wearing fake uniforms and using a Mercedes-Benz car jack modified to resemble a firearm. This deception allowed them to gain access into estates under the pretense of conducting security investigations.
“Once inside, the gang targeted high-end vehicles such as Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650, Mercedes-Benz, and other SUVs,” the statement explained. “They systematically vandalized the vehicles, removing vital and expensive components including brainboxes, tapping glasses, wiring systems, side mirrors, and control devices.”
Police detectives confirmed that the arrested suspect has already corroborated his involvement in the crime and is currently assisting investigators. Recovered items include a Mercedes-Benz car jack and a face cap bearing the inscription Special Force, which were used in the disguise. Efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate and their accomplices.
Police Urge Vigilance and Community Cooperation to Strengthen Lagos Security
The Command, in its advisory to the public, urged residents—particularly estate management and security guards—to exercise vigilance and extreme caution when dealing with individuals claiming to be security operatives. “Residents are urged to collaborate closely with the Police by contacting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) covering their area to confirm the authenticity of any such personnel before granting access into their estates,” the statement warned.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to community safety. He encouraged estate managements and residents to remain alert and to make full use of the Command’s emergency hotlines—08063299264, 09053872208, 08087332678—for rapid intervention.
“Together, through vigilance, cooperation, and timely reporting, the safety and security of all communities in Lagos State will be strengthened,” CP Jimoh emphasized.
The statement, signed by DSP Bababeyi B. Oluseyi, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, was issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on September 20, 2025.
