The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to intensify efforts in securing the release of students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga, Danko/Wasagu LGA in Kebbi State.
According to a report signed by Captain David Adewusi. Media Information officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the directive was issued on Monday, November 17, 2025, during an operational tour to the state, where Gen Shaibu charged frontline commanders and troops to conduct intelligence-driven operations and maintain relentless day-and-night pursuit of the abductors.
“We must find these children. Act decisively and professionally on all intelligence. Success is not optional,” Gen Shaibu stated, emphasizing the military’s commitment to rescuing the abducted students unharmed.
COAS Reassures Community, Engages Local Vigilantes
It was disclosed further that the abduction occurred on Sunday night, when bandits attacked the school, killing the Vice Principal, Malami Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducting 25 students. The COAS has assured the families of the abducted students and the community that the military is doing everything possible to secure their release
Additionally, Gen Shaibu also engaged local vigilantes and hunters, describing them as critical partners in the operation. He urged them to leverage their knowledge of the terrain in collaboration with troops to locate and neutralize criminal elements. ” Together, we will restore peace and ensure children can attend school safely,” He stressed
Earlier, Gen Shaibu paid a condolence visit to the Traditional Ruler of Danko, Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Allaje, and the Principal of GGCSS Maga, Hajiya Rabi Musa Magaji, assuring them of the military’s unwavering commitment to rescuing the abducted students unharmed
