The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that one of its C-130 aircraft made a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, during a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025. The aircraft, which had departed from Lagos, diverted after the crew detected a technical concern mid-flight.
According to a statement signed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the diversion was strictly in line with global aviation safety standards. “Following takeoff from Lagos, the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, the nearest airfield,” he clarified.
NAF Reassures Public on Crew Safety
Nigerian Air Force further assured the public that the crew is safe and has received warm reception from authorities in Burkina Faso. “NAF crew is safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities,” the statement noted, dispelling any anxiety regarding the welfare of personnel onboard.
Plans are already underway to enable the continuation of the mission once necessary technical checks are completed. NAF emphasized its unwavering commitment to maintaining operational integrity and safety. “NAF remains professionally committed to strict compliance with operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring the protection of its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate,” Air Commodore Ejodame added.
The Nigerian Air Force also expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended by Burkinabe authorities during the incident, while reassuring Nigerians that the situation remains fully under control.
