U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that the ongoing armed conflict with Iran may last up to four weeks, outlining the expected duration during a telephone interview on Sunday with the British newspaper Daily Mail.
“From the outset, it was assumed that it would take about four weeks,” Trump said. Emphasizing the scale of the operation, he added, “It’s a big country; it’ll take four weeks – or less.”
The conflict has already resulted in casualties among U.S. forces. Three American soldiers have been killed, while five others sustained serious injuries in the military operation targeting Iran.
Iran has responded with counterattacks, striking U.S. military bases in the Gulf region and other designated targets.
Reflecting on the losses, Trump described the fallen troops as “great people.” He acknowledged the risks involved in the campaign, stating, “And, you know, we expect that to happen, unfortunately. Could happen continuously – it could happen again.”
Meanwhile, Israel’s Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, echoed a similar outlook on the trajectory of the conflict. Speaking late Sunday, he said Israel had recorded “significant achievements” in Iran within the first 48 hours of operations but cautioned that “many more days of fighting lie ahead.” (dpa/NAN)
