NCC REITERATES COMMITMENT TO ITS 8POINT AGENDA :STATES 13% BB PENETRATION

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has once again reiterated it’s commitment at achieving it’s 8POINT AGENDA for the ICT sector, as it is a key component of the diversification agenda of the Federal government.
This hope was rekindled by the Executive Vice chairman of the NCC, Prof Umar Garba Dambatta during a keynote address at the Nigerian ICT impact CEO forum and Ada awards 2016 held in Lagos on Friday.
According to him, the imperatives of the ICT will continue to be stressed until the nation is sufficiently supplied with broadband to enable the commission achieve the tripple A’s of Availability, Accessibility, and Affordability, main pillars upon which the 8POINT AGENDA rests.
The EVC who was represented by the Director of public Affairs, NCC, Mr Tony Ojobo, said that presently, broadband Penetration in the country is at 13% as the commission has projected a target of 30% broadband Penetration by the year 2018.
According to him, the country needs to put in more efforts towards achieving the broadband target by 2018 and the vision of the commissions broadband pursuit is to provide and optimise access to and use of affordable fixed and mobile broadband everywhere in Nigeria.
He added that the commissions strategy to achieve this is to facilitate and support availability of broadband services by promoting deployments of universally available, fast and reliable network infrastructure that will stimulate seamless broadband Penetration to drive technology innovations and overall productivity of the economy.
