
In a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has succeeded in arresting one Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso, a 44-year-old suspect wanted for various crimes.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Akinwande was apprehended in a special operation code-named “Silence, Speed, and Surprise” in Agbado, Ogun State.
The police recovered several items from Akinwande’s hideout, including nine sophisticated firearms, ammunition, magazines, a dagger, walkie-talkies, and international passports belonging to different individuals. The recovered items include:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- One K2 assault rifle
- One Red Ryder rifle
- Three pump-action rifles
- Two locally made single-barrel pistols
- Five magazines
- Fifty-seven live cartridges
- Seventy 5.56 live ammunition
- Twenty-seven 9mm ammunition
- One expended 5.56 ammunition
- One dagger
- Three walkie-talkies
- Nine international passports.
It was further reported that Akinwande was alleged to have been involved in criminal activities in Lagos State, particularly in the Mushin area, where he and his gang have terrorized residents for over a decade. Akinwande was responsible for organizing and executing series of armed robberies, cold-blooded murders, kidnappings, and cult-related killings.
Akinwande’s Arrest Spurs Wider Investigation as Police Urge Vigilance and Community Support
The Command stated that Akinwande’s arrest marks a huge success in the ongoing fight against violent crimes that threaten the security and safety of residents in Mushin and other parts of Lagos State.
Aside this, Four families have already come forward to identify him as the suspect behind the killings of their loved ones.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), has been directed to lead other specially selected crack detectives to broaden the investigation and round up all other suspects linked to Akinwande.
Currently, he is in police custody and will face legal proceedings. The police have called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
