Seven Officers Decorated with New Ranks at Nigerian Navy Headquarters

In a statement signed by Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, Director of Information, the Nigerian Navy announced the decoration of seven newly promoted officers with their new ranks during a ceremony held on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja. The event, traditionally referred to as the “shipping of stripes,” marked a significant milestone in the officers’ careers, recognizing their exceptional service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the Navy and the nation.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, was represented at the ceremony by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Abdullahi Dewu. In his address, Admiral Dewu congratulated the newly promoted officers and their spouses, commending them for their professionalism and unwavering commitment to the service of the nation.

Rear Admiral Dewu emphasized that the promotions were not only a personal achievement but also a testament to the vital support provided by the officers’ families. “Your promotion is a reflection of support from family who labour to keep the home front, thus ensuring that the officers concentrate on their job which has earned them the promotion,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of the promotion, Admiral Dewu stated, “Today’s ceremony is a celebration of hard work, integrity, professionalism and perseverance. Your promotion is not just recognition of past achievements but also a call to greater responsibility as lieutenant commanders in the Nigerian Navy.” He urged the officers to continue contributing meaningfully to the Navy’s mission, particularly in combating insecurity and maritime crime across the country.

The officers who were decorated with the new rank of Lieutenant Commander in the presence of their families, senior officers, branch chiefs, directors, and well-wishers are Lieutenant Sadiq Alhassan, Lieutenant Augusta Aku, Lieutenant James Enejoh, Lieutenant Clement Eyeh, Lieutenant James Fatika, Lieutenant Titilayo George, and Lieutenant Deborah Nwaorji.

The ceremony concluded with a photo session and a brief reception held in honour of the newly promoted officers, celebrating their achievement and the beginning of a new phase in their service to the nation.
