The Lagos State Police Command has announced the implementation of extensive security measures across the state to ensure a peaceful and secure Christmas and New Year celebration, in compliance with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
According to a statement on Tuesday, 2025, by SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the massive deployment of police personnel and operational assets to maintain law and order before, during, and after the festive period. According to the Command, the security arrangement covers all parts of the state, including highways, inner roads, waterways, and public gathering points.
“The deployment comprises conventional police officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives, marine officers, and special squads strategically positioned across Lagos State to forestall any breach of security,” the Command stated.
Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and heads of tactical units have been directed to intensify patrols, ensure visibility policing, and maintain round-the-clock surveillance across communities. Officers on duty have also been charged to remain professional, courteous, and firm while carrying out their responsibilities.
To ease traffic congestion associated with the festive rush, the Command disclosed that over 5,000 police personnel have been deployed specifically for traffic duties across major highways, inner roads, and identified traffic-prone areas in the state.
Police Intensify Road Safety Talks, Deploy Joint Teams Statewide
In a bid to curb the recurring surge in fatal road accidents during the festive season, CP Jimoh recently convened a strategic meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, alongside heads of key safety and security agencies. These included the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Fire Service, and the Federal Controller of Works, among others.
“The meeting deliberated on sustainable measures to reduce road accidents and enhance public safety and security during and beyond the festive period,” the statement noted.
Additionally, police joint teams comprising conventional officers, tactical squads, SMART operatives, and intelligence units have been deployed across the state to crack down on traffic robbers, hoodlums, and other criminal elements seeking to exploit the festive season to disrupt public peace.
Special attention, the Command said, is being given to the security of places of worship, recreational centres, nightclubs, markets, motor parks, and other public spaces expected to experience increased human traffic during the celebrations.
CP Jimoh assured residents and visitors of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property throughout the season and beyond.
