Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Lagos State Police Command have successfully apprehended a suspected armed robber, Omotayo Iwajomo, following a coordinated and intelligence-led raid. The operation led to the recovery of a deadly AK-49 assault rifle along with several rounds of ammunition. This was revealed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
On 15th July 2025, acting on a credible intelligence tip-off, the detectives stormed a known criminal hideout located in the Ajegunle area within the Ikorodu general vicinity. During the raid, the suspect was found in possession of an AK-49 assault rifle, three magazines, and a cache of ammunition, including fifteen rounds of 7.62x39mm, three rounds of 9mm (K2), and two rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspect to a series of armed robberies and land-grabbing activities across various parts of Lagos State. Law enforcement sources confirm that the recovered firearm was actively used to facilitate these criminal acts.

Further inquiries have uncovered that Omotayo Iwajomo is not operating alone. Authorities are intensifying efforts to track down other members of the criminal syndicate. “Efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate and to charge all involved to court at the conclusion of the investigation, to face the full weight of the law,” police officials stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commends the State Criminal Investigation Department for their professionalism and swift action.
