The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday announced the arrest of three suspected members of a notorious criminal syndicate known for vandalizing high-end vehicles across the state. The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this in an official press statement detailing the operation and the suspects’ activities.
According to the statement, police detectives carried out the arrest in the early hours of March 25, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m. The suspects, Obinna Okeke (age 27), Emmanuel Anyanwu (age 38), and Joshua Nkemdirim (age 31), were described as “vicious and notorious” individuals who allegedly specialize in impersonating security operatives to gain access into residential estates within the Lagos metropolis.
Police investigations revealed that the group operated by wearing fake security uniforms and using a modified Mercedes car jack designed to resemble a firearm. This tactic enabled them to deceive estate security personnel and residents. “The suspects allegedly specialize in disguising as security operatives… to gain access into estates,” the statement noted.
Once inside, the gang reportedly targeted luxury and utility vehicles, including Toyota Hilux, Toyota Highlander, Lexus 650 Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, and other SUVs. Their operations focused on removing valuable components such as brain boxes, wiring systems, side mirrors, control devices, and other expensive parts.
Police Recover Evidence, Call for Public Cooperation
The police confirmed that the suspects have admitted to their involvement in the crimes and are currently assisting investigators. “During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a criminal syndicate that specializes in vandalizing vehicles within Lagos State and its environs,” the statement added. Several recovered items, including vehicle components and the modified car jack, were displayed as evidence.
Authorities also disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who remain at large. The Command emphasized its commitment to ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice.
In response to the incident, the police issued a strong advisory to residents, estate managers, and security personnel to remain vigilant. They urged the public to thoroughly verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a security operative before granting access into estates. “Residents are urged to collaborate closely with the Police by contacting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)… to confirm the authenticity of any such security personnel,” the statement read.
