The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrest of two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for allegedly transporting arms and military uniforms intended for terrorists in Borno State.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, made this known during a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja, where he provided updates on the military’s ongoing nationwide operations.
According to Kangye, the suspects—identified as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed—were apprehended in Liya, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. They were reportedly caught while taking delivery of a waybill from a truck driver, an operation conducted based on intelligence received earlier by security forces.
“Two members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers identified as Isah Abdullahi and Abdullahi Mohammed were arrested in Liya, Biu LGA of Borno State while receiving waybill from a truck driver, which corresponded with intelligence received earlier on the said consignment,” Kangye said.
He added that the intercepted items included 13 pairs of military uniforms and some high-voltage batteries, among other materials.

In a related development, troops also arrested another logistics supplier for terrorists. The suspect, identified as 65-year-old Shaibu Bulama, was apprehended at Damasak Motor Park in Yobe State on July 13, 2025. Kangye said arms and ammunition were recovered from him, along with some improvised explosive devices (IEDs) which were safely detonated. A sum of ₦17,150.00 was also recovered during the operation.
Kangye also disclosed that sustained military pressure in the North East continues to yield results. On July 14, 2025, 16 family members of terrorists surrendered to troops in Bama Local Government Area. The group consisted of four adult females and 12 children.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the group surrendered from Bakura Jega village,” he added.
Elsewhere in the country, troops operating in the South East arrested a tax collector allegedly working for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to Kangye, the suspect was commissioned by the separatist group to collect levies from local residents. He confirmed that ₦1.5 million was recovered from the arrested tax agent.
