The Lagos State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against auto theft with the arrest of four suspects linked to a notorious car theft syndicate. The successful operation also led to the recovery of a stolen Toyota Hiace Bus.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in his statement dated 31st August, the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Tactical Team, Isheri Division, following a detailed intelligence-led investigation.
The case began on August 1, 2025, when police received a report involving a suspected car theft by Salisu Ibrahim Abdullahi, a 31-year-old male. Acting swiftly, detectives tracked and apprehended the principal suspect in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“In line with our commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing, our operatives moved fast, identifying and arresting the main suspect within days,” said CSP Hundeyin.
Police Expand Operations Across States, Arrest Accomplices and Recover Stolen Vehicle
Further investigations revealed the involvement of three other individuals believed to be accomplices. The police confirmed the arrest of Yenusa Salihu (45), a mechanic; Baba Jero Idris (49), a car dealer; and Abdullahi Aliyu (41), a businessman — all nabbed in Kano State. During the same operation, the grey Toyota Hiace Bus, reported stolen, was also recovered.
“These arrests not only highlight the reach of our operations but also send a strong message to criminal elements who believe they can evade justice by crossing state lines,” Hundeyin added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives involved in the investigation and praised their swift response. He assured Lagos residents that the Command remains fully committed to eradicating vehicle theft across the state.
“This success is a testament to the cutting-edge strategies and dedication of our officers. We will not relent in deploying modern policing tools and tactics to ensure the safety and security of Lagosians,” CP Jimoh stated.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
