Representatives of Dangote Group on Sunday collected the remains of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, from the hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to information gathered.
Ruth had undergone a leg amputation after being struck by a truck linked to the Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, on Wednesday. Tragically, she died in the early hours of Sunday morning, just weeks after the accident that severely injured her.
The family officially announced her death through a statement released by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.
They also requested privacy during their time of mourning.
“The family is presently grieving and will appreciate being given a private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.

A family source revealed to reporters that representatives of Dangote Group were promptly contacted following Ruth’s passing and later transported her body to the mortuary. “When she died this morning, the representatives of Dangote Group were contacted and notified. They later came and took the corpse to the mortuary. We are expecting that they take over the expenses of her burial, since they had stepped in to take over her medical expenses,” the source, who requested anonymity, stated.
Another grieving relative described Ruth as a warm and affectionate individual, recalling fond memories of her presence within the family. “We will miss her. We had thought she would survive after she started recuperating. She was very loving to be with. We used to call her Bobo, which was her nickname. She stayed with her parents at Ketu-Alapere from where they often visited our family house in Omojua Estate, Kosofe,” the relative shared.
Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident recounted that the heavy-duty truck involved in the incident crushed Ruth’s leg. According to them, the truck was eventually pursued and stopped by a bystander after the incident.
In the days following the accident, Phyna publicly demanded that her sister be flown abroad—specifically to India—for advanced medical treatment, highlighting the severity of Ruth’s condition.
In response, the Dangote Group acknowledged the incident and issued a statement affirming their commitment to supporting the victim and her family. The company noted that its team had visited the accident scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and met with the victim’s family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Edo State.
They further pledged full medical support and compensation in line with the company’s welfare policy.
