The Lagos State Government has withdrawn its initial press release in which it gave the nod to Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos State to reopen.
This was announced by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ganiu Lawal, on a platform on Thursday.
The social platform is used by the Ministry to related with newsmen covering its activities.
There had been an outrage over the decision of the Lagos State Government to reopen Dowen College following the death of a 12-year-old student, Sylvester Oromoni, last year.
Decision to reopen the school was based on the clearance given by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution clearing the school, staff and students accused of having a hand in Oromoni’s death.
Withdrawing the initial statement, Lawal wrote on Thursday: “Dear Colleagues, Following the press release just issued by the Ministry. We kindly request that you disregard and step down as a new development will be issued soon.
“Any inconvenience regretted”
