
In a major breakthrough against violent crime in Lagos, operatives from the Special Tactical Unit of the Command arrested a notorious armed robbery suspect in the early hours of July 15, 2025. Acting on credible intelligence, the team stormed a hideout in Ikorodu at about 1:00 a.m., where they apprehended one Omotayo Iwajomo, a male suspect believed to be the leader of a dangerous robbery syndicate.
During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the suspect’s location. Items seized include one AK-49 rifle with Breech No. N704983, three magazines, seventeen rounds of 47.62mm live ammunition, and three rounds of 9.19mm live ammunition. The recovered weaponry is believed to have been used in multiple violent crimes across the state.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Iwajomo has been a key figure in a gang linked to a series of armed robberies and violent criminal activities in Lagos. According to police sources, the suspect has confessed to leading the gang and is currently cooperating with authorities to track down other members of the criminal network.
