The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a combination of sunshine and cloudiness across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said the northern region will experience predominantly sunny and cloudy conditions throughout the forecast period, with similar patterns expected to persist across the zone.
For the southern part of the country, NiMet projected sunny skies with patches of cloud, alongside the possibility of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states later in the day.
Providing details for Tuesday, the agency stated: “For Tuesday, sunny and hazy skies are expected over the northern and central regions during the forecast period, while sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated over the southern region.”
It added that “Chances of thunderstorms with light rain are expected over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states during the morning hours.”
NiMet Warns of Thunderstorms, Haze and Safety Risks
According to NiMet, “Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.”
On Wednesday, the agency predicted sunny and hazy conditions over the northern region during the morning, with dust haze expected to develop in the afternoon and evening periods. Sunny and hazy skies are also envisaged over the central region throughout the day.
For the southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning, as well as isolated thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
Issuing public health and safety advisories, the agency said: “Dust particles are in suspension over the North-Central region; the public should take necessary precautions.”
It further cautioned that “NiMet advises people with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory issues to take heed of the prevailing weather conditions.”
On transportation and aviation, the agency warned: “Driving under rain should be done with caution. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.”
“Residents are advised to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet,” the agency added.
