President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are projected to spend a combined N9,364,349,417 on local and foreign travels, as well as food and refreshments, in the 2026 fiscal year, according to details contained in the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The figures were obtained from the budget document released on Thursday by the Budget Office of the Federation. President Tinubu had earlier presented the N58.18 trillion budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 19, 2025, stating that national security remained the foundation for economic growth, investment, and social stability.
A review of the 2,790-page budget document sighted by reporters shows that the President proposed N3.2 trillion for Defence and N1.1 trillion for the Power sector, while the Education sector is expected to receive N2.3 trillion. The Federal Government also plans to spend N2.1 trillion on Health and Social Welfare, N1.4 trillion on Agriculture and Food Security, and N1 trillion on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Tinubu’s 2026 Spending: Travels, Meals, and Office Assets
Further details indicate that President Tinubu plans to spend N7,014,596,511 on local and international travels, alongside N431,620,183 on foodstuffs, catering materials, supplies, refreshments, and meals. Of the travel allocation, N873,886,689 is earmarked for local trips, while foreign travels will account for N6,140,709,822.
Vice President Shettima, on his part, is expected to spend N1,732,106,437 on local and foreign travels, as well as N186,026,286 on foodstuffs, catering materials, supplies, refreshments, and meals. A breakdown shows that N417,488,198 is allocated for his local travels, while N1,314,618,239 is set aside for international trips.
The budget document also reveals that the President is expected to spend N65.77 million on honorarium and sitting allowances. In addition, N895 million has been budgeted for the purchase of library books and equipment, while N179 million is allocated for the purchase of vehicles.
Other provisions include N778.6 million for office furniture and fittings and N1.342 million for health and medical equipment. The proposal further sets aside N89.504 million for the ongoing procurement of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for both the President and the Vice President.
Meanwhile, the Senate, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, passed the Appropriation Bill for second reading, paving the way for detailed legislative scrutiny of the proposed spending plan.
