Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has taken to social media to celebrate a major career milestone after grossing over ₦2 billion at the box office, cementing her status as Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker of all time.
The achievement was recorded on Monday when her movie ‘Behind The Scenes’ crossed the ₦2 billion mark, according to an announcement by the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment.
The film has been described as the first in West Africa to surpass ₦2 billion at the box office. It is also reported to be the highest-grossing Nollywood title of all time across Africa, the United Kingdom and Ireland, while making Akindele the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years.
Funke Akindele Reflects on Her Record-Breaking Box Office Journey
Reacting to the milestone, Akindele shared an appreciation post on her official X account on Monday evening, where she reflected on her journey and thanked God for the success of the film.
She wrote, “Records are milestones, not the mission. From ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ grossing 1B to ‘Behind The Scenes’ crossing 2B and still counting, this is God in motion. And i’m most grateful to my maker and return all the glory to him.”
She added, “The lesson remains unchanged: serve the story, respect the audience, refine the craft, and let the work earn its applause.”
Funke Akindele currently holds the record for the top three highest-grossing Nollywood films. ‘Behind The Scenes’, released in 2025, has grossed ₦2,103,039,706 and is still counting. ‘Everybody Loves Jenifer’, released in 2024, earned ₦1,882,553,548, while ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, released in 2023, grossed ₦1,408,227,541.
