The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents, traders, and transport operators along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway corridor to dispose of their waste through assigned Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators, as it begins large-scale cleaning and evacuation activities across the axis.
The Lagos State Government announced the development in a statement shared Monday on its official social media platforms, noting that the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to address waste management concerns in the area.
During a monitoring exercise across identified waste blackspots on Saturday, LAWMA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, explained that the intervention aligns with broader environmental compliance and sustainability objectives.
He said, “LAWMA has commenced bulk waste evacuation at Alaba Rago along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, deploying heavy-duty carriers, loaders and support teams to clear illegal dump sites.”
“Residents, traders, and transport operators are advised to dispose of waste only through assigned PSP operators and comply strictly with environmental regulations.”
The monitoring and cleanup operation spans several key locations, including Orile, Doyin, Alaba Rago, Agric, Barracks Iyana-Iba, and Agbara. Authorities say the exercise will extend to other waste blackspots along the corridor.
Earlier reports indicated that the bulk evacuation drive began along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, with the initial cleanup focused on Alaba Rago. Officials say the effort is part of sustained measures to tackle illegal dumping and improve environmental conditions across the route.
