The semi-final fixtures for the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have been confirmed following the conclusion of the quarter-final matches on Saturday night.
Egypt, Nigeria, hosts Morocco and Senegal emerged as the final four teams after a series of tightly contested quarter-final encounters that showcased fine margins, experience and composure at the highest level of African football.
Hosts Morocco will face Nigeria in one semi-final, while Senegal are set to battle seven-time champions Egypt in the other, with both matches scheduled for Wednesday.
Egypt secured the final semi-final spot after edging defending champions Côte d’Ivoire 3–2 in a thrilling quarter-final clash. The victory brought an end to the Elephants’ title defence and set up a high-stakes meeting with Senegal.
Earlier, Senegal booked their place in the last four with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Mali in a tense West African derby. Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half strike proved decisive as the Teranga Lions held firm to protect their narrow lead.
Morocco continued their pursuit of a first AFCON title since 1976 with a composed 2–0 win over Cameroon in Rabat. Goals from Brahim Díaz and Ismaël Saibari highlighted the Atlas Lions’ attacking efficiency and defensive solidity.
Nigeria completed the semi-final line-up after defeating Algeria 2–0 in Marrakech. Victor Osimhen opened the scoring before Akor Adams sealed the win late on, setting up a mouthwatering clash with the tournament hosts.
The semi-final matches will be played on Wednesday, January 14, with the AFCON 2025 final scheduled for January 18 in Rabat.
