The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Board, following a successful screening by the Senate Committee on Communications on Tuesday 18, November, 2025.
It was reported that Olorunnimbe, representing the Southwest zone, was confirmed alongside five other commissioners, including Maryam Bayi (Northeast), Senator Ramoni Olalekan Mustafa (Southwest), Ikechukwu Ugwuegede (Southeast), Princess Oforitsenere Emiko (South South), and Christopher Sandy Okorie (South South).
NCC Board Confirmation Strengthens Telecom Oversight
It was noted that the confirmation completes a significant portion of the Commission’s governing structure, strengthening Nigeria’s telecommunications sector oversight. The newly confirmed board members will join existing executives, including Executive Vice Chairman Dr. Aminu Maida (Northwest), Executive Commissioner (Technical Services) Engineer Abraham Oshadami (North Central), and Executive Commissioner (Stakeholder Management) Rimini H. Makama (North Central).
The NCC Board is responsible for providing strategic oversight, regulating the telecommunications industry, and promoting fair competition. The confirmation is part of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s effort to strengthen digital governance, widen access to communications services, and promote fair competition in Nigeria’s digital economy
