In a significant step toward strengthening technology-driven policing, the Lagos State Police Command has activated a new CCTV Surveillance Centre to boost security across Lagos Island and surrounding areas.

The facility, which became operational on January 14, 2026, was inaugurated under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh. According to the Command, the surveillance centre is designed to provide real-time monitoring of strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, adjoining waterways, and other key areas within Lagos Island.

Describing the initiative as a proactive security measure, the police noted that the centre would enhance crime prevention and response capabilities. “The CCTV Surveillance Centre provides real-time monitoring aimed at proactively preventing crime and protecting lives and property,” the statement said.

The project was built and fully equipped by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Works, under the supervision of the Minister, Engr. Dave Umahi. The Command added that the centre also functions as Control Room 5 and operates 24 hours a day with well-trained officers to ensure swift, intelligence-led responses to security threats.

As part of the operational support for the initiative, two operational vehicles were officially handed over to the Lagos State Police Command on January 16, 2026, further strengthening patrol and response efforts linked to the surveillance system.
The police reiterated their commitment to public safety and called for citizen collaboration. “Members of the public are urged to stay vigilant and partner with the police by reporting suspicious activities,” the statement read.
Residents were encouraged to use the Command’s emergency lines to report emergencies or suspicious movements via 0706 101 9374, 0806 515 4338, 0806 329 9264, and 0803 934 4870.
