The Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT has handed over five bags of seized cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), following an intelligence-led operation in Lagos.
The handover, which took place on Friday, 20 February 2026, involved a consignment weighing about 500 kilograms. According to naval authorities, the drugs were intercepted on 18 February after the ship’s Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a van suspected of transporting illicit substances around Abule Osun in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State.
Navy Highlights Inter-Agency Efforts Against Drug Trafficking
Speaking during the handover, the Commander of the facility, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, said the successful operation reflects the sustained efforts of the Nigerian Navy to combat illegal activities within the country’s maritime domain. He noted that the interception aligns with ongoing security efforts under the leadership of Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
He also commended naval personnel for their vigilance and professionalism, stating that the Navy remains committed to working closely with other security agencies to secure Nigeria’s coastal corridors. Adams-Aliu further urged members of the public to provide “timely and credible information” to support security operations across the state.
The seized narcotics were formally handed over to Adejumo Gbenga Ayo, Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Festac Area Command, for further investigation and necessary action.
Authorities say the development highlights growing inter-agency cooperation aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring a safer maritime environment across Nigeria.
