Police in Ogun State have arrested a suspected armed robber, Matthew Adebisi, for allegedly attacking an okada rider with a locally made pistol and stealing his motorcycle in Sabo.
The suspect was reportedly arrested after members of the public raised an alarm in the Sodeke area of Sabo.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday, noting that the suspect had been apprehended and the weapon recovered.
According to Babaseyi, “On 5th April 2026, at about 2200hrs, the Command received a report that one Mathew Adebisi ‘M’ had attacked an okada rider with a locally made gun, leaving the victim unconscious before fleeing with his motorcycle. Upon receipt of the report, operatives were swiftly dispatched to the scene.”
He added, “The suspect was given a hot chase and subsequently apprehended. The locally made gun used in the attack and the stolen motorcycle were recovered from him. The victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, where he is currently responding to treatment.”
Police Transfer Case to SCID, Urge Public Vigilance
Babaseyi said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, adding that the suspect would be charged to court after investigations are completed.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the swift response of the officers involved in the operation.
Ojajuni also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating violent crimes and protecting residents across the state. He urged members of the public to stay alert and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
