Lagos Police Arrest Serial Commercial Taxi Driver for Multiple Rape and Assault Cases

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious commercial taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, who has been linked to several cases of rape, defilement, assault, and armed robbery against female passengers across parts of the state.

According to a statement issued 1st November 2025, by SP Abimbola Adebisi, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command, the suspect’s picture had earlier gone viral on social media after multiple victims identified him as the perpetrator of several violent attacks.

“Crack detectives and smart operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, have arrested one Adedayo Ben Adegbola, identified by some of the victims as the driver whose picture appeared in viral online posts,” the statement read.

Arrest and Recovery of Operational Vehicle

The arrest followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundāre Jimoh, who ordered a detailed and discreet investigation into complaints lodged by the victims. The police said that through a painstaking operation carried out by joint investigative teams, Adegbola was apprehended on October 31, 2025, at about 9:40 a.m.

“The operational vehicle being used by the suspect, a red Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 226 HT, was recovered from his possession,” SP Adebisi confirmed.

The recovered car has since been secured as evidence and will be used in the prosecution of the suspect.

Investigation Ongoing, Victims Urged to Come Forward

Police authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals suspected of collaborating with Adegbola in the commission of the crimes. The Command also appealed to other victims of the suspect to come forward and assist in the investigation.

“The Command urges any of the victims of this vicious and notorious suspect to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to provide relevant information and evidence to help the investigation. Their identities will be properly protected,” the statement assured.

Reaffirming the Command’s dedication to protecting all residents, CP Olohundāre Jimoh pledged continued efforts to ensure justice for survivors and maintain safety across Lagos State.

“The Commissioner of Police reassures the public of the Command’s firm commitment to protecting all residents, ensuring justice for survivors, and maintaining the security of Lagos State,” the statement concluded, adding that further updates on the case will be released in due course.
